Finding and attracting top candidates is difficult for insurance agencies thanks to increased competition. One of the biggest obstacles to hiring the right candidate is the ability to identify, and agree on qualifications. For years, college degrees have been the minimal requirement for higher paying positions, but that is changing.

 

Ernst & Young, one of the largest professional services firms in the world, recently announced that it would no longer require college degrees for job applicants because it found no evidence that previous success in higher education correlated with future success in professional positions. The company will instead look to skills tests, aptitude tests and past accomplishments as qualifications for hiring.

 

Another shift in talent sourcing is looking beyond job boards. While the recruiter of yesterday looks to posting open jobs on traditional job boards like Monster or Indeed, the modern recruiter is looking to places candidates spend time most – like social media sites. Social recruiting is a hot trend in recruiting, but not an avenue saturated by the insurance industry. Social media is a great place for independent insurance agencies to source and acquire top sales agents.
